The Natural History Museum of Meteora and Mushroom Museum gained two awards at Tourism Awards 2021, the biggest Greek tourism award institution. More specifically, the Museum won the GOLD award in the “Museums / Archaeological Sites / Cultural Sites” category for the complete museum experience that it offers, while the innovative work in its new wing, where the Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR) technology is used, won the SILVER award in the category “Use of virtual reality / augmented reality”.
With the GOLD award, the whole efforts of the Museum to offer a variety of activities and experiences that improve and update the relationship between visitors and the Museum, are rewarded.
At the same time, the SILVER award of the new wing, which refers to the top medical and edible mushrooms, is a great example of how the use of new technologies, such as SAR, can apply in a modern museum. The contribution of Mr. Theodoros Randos, CEO of Interactive Light Designs, Mrs. Olga Gortzi, Professor of the University of Thessaly and with scientific responsibility for the project, and Mr. George Konstantinidis, was more than important for the creation of the new wing.
As the Director of the Museum, Mr. Nikos Pallas characteristically stated “In addition to the satisfaction that the continuous awards offer, they are also the trigger for the constant improvement of the Museum’s provided services, as well as for searching for new experiences for our visitors.”
